I think Facebook statuses are silly. It’s fun to think up things to say that mean something to the people who know you, and a challenge to say what you mean with so few words. I think it’s silly that we all talk in the third person in our statuses, which is a sign of mental illness. But I’m wondering: is my almost pathological desire to comply with the point-of-view set forth by Facebook a result of my impending “mental disease or defect”? Or is it really just because I’m an English major and it seriously BOTHERS me to break a cardinal rule of English grammar? Stay true to the point-of-view, people!

My eyes are swelling up with tears. There you are having the courage to admit you know English, how to write complete sentences and are willing to defend the English language. There is hope for the future.
